Travel Throughout New Zealand Playing Golf With A Group Of Your Friends Or By Yourself
Queenstown is placed on the shores of the glaciated lake of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkable Ranges which flanks one side of the lake provides the background.
New Zealand boasts in excess of 300 golf clubs, officially registered with Golf New Zealand, despite only having a population of 4.3 million. This does not take into account many of the other courses which are privately owned or attached to some of the charming hotels situated in perfect locations around New Zealand.
New Zealand’s most active, mainland volcano, Mt Ruapehu, also the largest mountain in the North Island, on it foothills, plays host to one such course.
Grand Chateau Bay-view Hotel, is playable almost all year round except when every now and then is covered in snow.
The Rangatira Golf Club, a little further down the road towards the countries capital city, Wellington, is a superb course although not often visited by tourists.
The Rangatira course has lovely views overlooking the Rangitiki gorge. The limestone gorge having been carved out by the Rangitiki River over millions of years.
The proud devoted green staff looked after the course to the highest standards. Split into three levels of 6 holes each making its way down the hillside towards the Rangitiki River. The 4 person electric cable car takes you back up to the clubhouse after completeing the 18th hole. All this for only $25 NZ green fee.
Moving north, you come to the township of Taupo and Lake Taupo.
At approximately 629 square kilometers, Lake Taupo is New Zealands largest lake.
A volcanic crater, which last erupted 2,000 years ago. It is said to have been one of the most impressive eruptions in the world, within the last two thousand years.
Rated by the esteemed US Golf Digest magazine, to be in the top 100 courses in the world, The Wairakei International Golf Course is only a few minutes from the township of Taupo.
Many of New Zealand’s native trees and plants, grace the fairways and greens.
The Bay of Islands, was the starting place of New Zealand’s recent history, and is almost at the top of the North Island. Looking across the waters of the Bay of Island and the township of Russell, is the back drop to the scenic Waitangi Golf Course.
Native bush and undulating landscape are the key features of the Front nine holes. The spectacular views. of the back nineĀ holes contrast that of the front. You may well have to share your game of golf with native birds like the Tui, Fantails, Australasian Harrier Hawks or a family of Canadian Quails.
